Richie’s Profile:
Born in New York City, raised in Virginia Beach,Va and now living in Beltsville, Md he first got his hands on a Kodak Instamatic camera when he was about 10 years of age.
He got his first chance to use that camera while on a family vacation in Niagra Falls. The images he was able to capture in this beautiful setting were so unbelievable thathe immediately became interested in this form of art that can tell the viewer so much about what it was he was viewing through the viewfinder of that Kodak Instamatic.
Though many of the photographs that he has taken since the days of that Kodak Instamatic have been misplaced or simply lost it wasn’t till he became much older that he was able to appreciate the fact that photographs are like a timepiece that should be well kept.
After a short stint in the United States Military where he was trained as a Still Photo Specialist and Lab Technician. The training that was afforded to him has become very invaluable in his efforts to further himself in an art form that for the most part requires the kind of awesome training that the U.S. Military provides.
For as long as he can remember, film and then slides have been the medium for capturing images and then came the digital age. Since he is somewhat of an old school kind of guy he still uses negative film and positive slide film because there is something about the look of a properly exposed negative or slide that gives the final print the deep, rich, vibrant colors and shadow detail that he has come to expect from a good quality negative or positive emulsion.
He now works with digital equipment because it is the future of photography. Keeping up with new technologies gives him the ability to become more creative and inspired by the flexibility he gets from digital equipment. Starting out in the digital age was a whole new learning curve for him with all the technical aspects involved but none the less very rewarding. He has been a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals for about 3 years and since doing so has had the opportunity to study and learn from some of the most top notch Photoshop experts and photographers in the digital field. It is of his opinion that you can never know everything there is to know about the digital age and with that said he is constantly pushing to be more creative and inspired by the enormous amount of technology that is being brought to the art form he’s grown to love for so many years.
For now, many of the images on this site were captured in the Maryland, Washington DC and Virginia areas and he surely hopes that the viewers of this site can appreciate his images as much as he has enjoyed capturing them. ENJOY!
